Overview
Join a dynamic specimen processing team as a Specimen Technician and become an integral part of delivering quality laboratory services. Perform general support functions within the specimen processing department, including presorting, pickup, and delivery of specimens.
Operate imaging and microfilming equipment, centrifuges, and aliquoting instruments accurately and efficiently.
Manage data entry processes, ensuring the accurate input of alphanumeric keystrokes at high volume rates.
Learn and understand different specimen types related to various tests ordered by clients.
Maintain compliance with safety, safety regulations, and quality standards, adhering to biohazard safety practices.
Support departmental productivity goals and quality standards, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
Communicate effectively with team members and other staff levels to promote a positive work environment.
Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety and departmental policies.
Adapt to daily operational changes and flexible scheduling, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
Required Skills
Strong organization skills and the ability to learn specimen types and test requirements.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in team settings.
Ability to perform detailed data entry with high accuracy and efficiency.
Comfortable working in a biohazard environment with proper safety habits.
Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with data entry systems.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during shifts.
Additional Skills & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; preferred knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing.
Previous laboratory or production environment experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
Medical background, including familiarity with medical terminology related to clinical laboratories, is preferred.
Flexibility to work overnight shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.
Comfortability working in a production setting with an emphasis on productivity and quality.
