Associate Attorney

Associate Attorney - Workers' Compensation Defense

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Associate Attorney to join our firms Workers' Compensation team. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of workers compensation matters, providing strong client advocacy from initial intake through resolution. Responsibilities include legal research and drafting, managing discovery, representing clients in depositions and hearings, negotiating settlements, and preparing and arguing motions as needed. The role requires sound litigation judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage deadlines and client expectations in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of workers compensation claims from intake through resolution, maintaining regular client communication and case documentation.
  • Conduct factual and legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Handle discovery tasks including drafting and responding to interrogatories, requests for production, subpoenas, and preparing witnesses for depositions.
  • Represent clients at mediations, hearings, status conferences, depositions, and other proceedings before administrative bodies and courts.
  • Negotiate settlements and claims resolutions with opposing counsel, insurers, and other stakeholders, protecting client interests and achieving cost-effective outcomes.
  • Prepare and argue motions and support memoranda in administrative and civil litigation when necessary.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff to develop litigation strategy and case budgets; provide mentorship to paralegals when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate time and billing records, adhere to firm policies, and assist in client development and case intake as needed.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
  • Litigation experience with demonstrated experience in Workers' Compensation matters preferred.
  • Proven experience or familiarity with settlements, discovery practice, civil litigation procedures, depositions, claims negotiations, and motion practice (preferred).
  • Strong legal research and writing skills with attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex facts and law into clear arguments.
  • Excellent oral advocacy and negotiation skills; comfortable appearing in hearings and examining witnesses.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Professionalism, ethical judgment, and a client-service orientation with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with case management software, e-filing systems, and Microsoft Office.
