Job Description
Our client is seeking a Quality Control Technician to support quality assurance throughout the construction and commissioning of custom marine vessels. This role is responsible for ensuring work meets quality standards, industry regulations, and classification society requirements. The ideal candidate will perform inspections, maintain quality documentation, coordinate testing activities, and help promote a culture of continuous improvement and quality excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesClassification Society CoordinationSchedule inspections and surveys throughout vessel construction.
Coordinate operational testing, dock trials, and sea trials with surveyors.
Provide required material and equipment certifications for inspections.
Document survey findings and communicate results to relevant teams.
Track and resolve open survey items.
Accompany surveyors during vendor inspections when needed.
Monitor welder qualifications and maintain certification records.
Ensure welding procedures meet applicable standards.
Coordinate approval of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) with classification societies.
Verify that production materials meet project and regulatory requirements.
Maintain documentation for certified materials.
Coordinate testing and approvals required for material certification.
Maintain inventory and calibration records for test and measurement equipment.
Ensure all equipment is calibrated and compliant with company standards.
Identify new equipment requirements and assist with procurement requests.
Conduct daily inspections during vessel construction.
Identify and address workmanship or quality concerns.
Work closely with department managers to resolve issues.
Document inspection findings and provide on-the-job quality guidance to production teams.
Monitor and witness testing activities.
Ensure testing procedures are followed and properly documented.
Coordinate required class witness inspections.
Develop and maintain testing procedures and reporting documents.
Assist in developing vendor quality expectations and requirements.
Document supplier quality issues and non-conformances.
Collaborate with Purchasing to resolve quality concerns and improve supplier performance.
Create and maintain quality procedures, checklists, and inspection documents.
Support production teams in developing and reviewing work instructions and procedures.
Maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
Monitor vessel commissioning activities.
Coordinate class certification testing with project and boat management teams.
Track open items and ensure timely resolution.
Document testing progress and final quality results.
Experience in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Marine Construction, Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, or a related industry.
Knowledge of inspection processes, testing procedures, and quality documentation.
Familiarity with welding certifications, material certifications, and calibration programs is preferred.
Ability to read technical drawings, specifications, and procedures.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
Experience working with classification societies or regulatory agencies is a plus.
Marine, shipbuilding, heavy manufacturing, industrial construction, fabrication, or related environments.
Experience supporting inspections, commissioning, testing, and compliance activities.
