Registered Nurse, Correctional Facility RN Qualifications:
- Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- New graduate RNs encouraged to apply
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Comfortable working with diverse patient populations
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Current BLS certification preferred or ability to obtain upon hire
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 45 pounds
- Previous experience in correctional healthcare, emergency medicine, behavioral health, long-term care, medical-surgical nursing, or public health is a plus
Registered Nurse, Correctional Facility RN Responsibilities:
- Perform nursing assessments and evaluate patient health concerns
- Administer medications, treatments, and physician-ordered care
- Monitor chronic medical conditions and document patient progress
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide triage as needed
- Draw blood and collect specimens for laboratory testing
- Perform health screenings, including TB testing and EKGs as needed
- Provide emergency first aid treatment
- Assist physicians with examinations and medical procedures
- Coordinate care with physicians, hospitals, specialists, and other healthcare providers
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records
- Conduct health screenings, intake evaluations, and wellness checks
- Educate patients regarding medical conditions, medications, and treatment plans
- Complete incident reports and required documentation
- Follow established healthcare, safety, and security protocols
- Collaborate with healthcare and facility staff to ensure quality patient care
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control standards, and applicable regulations
Registered Nurse, Correctional Facility RN Software & Technical Skills:
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR)
- Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR)
- Clinical documentation and charting
- Medication administration and management
- Patient assessment and triage
- Infection control and patient safety protocols
