Job Title: Accessioner I

Job Description

The Accessioner I processes and organizes laboratory samples to support accurate clinical testing and patient care. This role focuses primarily on blood specimens, with additional handling of urine, tissue, and other sample types. Working closely with laboratory professionals, the Accessioner I ensures that all specimens are correctly received, cataloged, and prepared so that diagnostic testing and treatment decisions can be made reliably and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and triage all incoming specimens for clinical testing, including blood, urine, tissue, and other sample types.
  • Verify specimen information against accompanying documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Catalog and log patient specimens into the laboratory information system or LCLS database in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Manage and maintain clinical information within the LCLS database, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Track specimens throughout the workflow to ensure they move efficiently through the testing process.
  • Prepare, pack, and ship specimens according to established protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with various laboratory departments to ensure testing accuracy and proper handling of specimens.
  • Communicate promptly with team members and other departments regarding any specimen issues, discrepancies, or delays.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and quality control guidelines to maintain high standards of laboratory practice.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area to support efficient and safe laboratory operations.
  • Prioritize tasks in a high-paced environment to meet strict deadlines for specimen processing and shipment.

Essential Skills

  • 0–2 years of work experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or high-volume data entry environment.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume data entry and multitasking environment.
  • Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and speed.
  • Proven attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle specimen triage, tracking, and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows and specimen handling procedures is an advantage.
  • Experience using laboratory information systems or databases, such as LCLS, is beneficial.
  • Comfort working in a structured environment that follows standard operating procedures and quality standards.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clinical laboratory setting where most work involves handling and processing blood specimens, as well as other sample types such as urine and tissue. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, requiring consistent attention to detail and accurate data entry. You will work with laboratory information systems, including the LCLS database, to manage clinical information and track specimens. The position involves regular collaboration with other laboratory staff and departments to ensure testing accuracy and efficient workflow. Work is typically performed at a laboratory bench and computer workstation, with frequent transitions between specimen handling, data entry, and packaging specimens for shipment.

Monday through Friday 3:30pm to 12pm. one Saturday a month from 4pm to 8pm.

This is a Contract position based out of Earth City, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
