Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) serves as a key healthcare professional responsible for overseeing and directing nursing care in the cath lab and interventional radiology departments. A proactive and enthusiastic approach is essential to contribute to the success of our organization.

Essential Functions: Below are the critical job responsibilities and performance metrics.

  • 1) Assessment: Conducts thorough nursing assessments to establish a comprehensive database. (20%)
    • A) Completes assessments for new admissions or transfers upon arrival in the PACU.
    • B) Accurately performs and documents patient evaluations.
    • C) Provides timely ongoing reassessments, documenting relevant observations.
  • 2) Planning: Develops and coordinates a care plan based on initial assessment data, patient diagnosis, and physician directives. (10%)
    • A) Identifies patient care requirements.
    • B) Designs nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
    • C) Initiates personalized care plans.
    • D) Collaborates with healthcare team members to coordinate daily care plans for assigned patients.
  • 3) Implementation: Executes and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, care plans, and changes in patient conditions. (30%)
    • A) Coordinates and documents patient care with other disciplines.
    • B) Provides and accurately documents patient education and discharge planning on the PACU flow sheet.
    • C) Reviews and initiates physician orders promptly and accurately.
    • D) Recognizes changes in patient conditions and takes appropriate nursing actions.
    • E) Follows medication and parenteral therapy administration guidelines.
    • F) Performs blood-drawing techniques for lab specimens, including blood cultures.
    • G) Notifies anesthesia and surgical physicians of significant patient condition changes.
    • H) Assists physicians with procedures, examinations, and other patient care processes.
  • 4) Evaluation: Records the effectiveness of nursing care and adjusts care plans as patients progress toward expected outcomes. (10%)
    • A) Conducts and documents ongoing evaluations of care effectiveness based on assessment data, nursing interventions, and patient responses.
    • B) Assesses and documents the effectiveness of patient education, including understanding levels.
    • C) Reviews and modifies care plans as necessary.
    • D) Evaluates pain medication effectiveness and takes appropriate nursing actions.
  • 5) Professional/Leadership: Takes responsibility for personal professional practice. (10%)
    • A) Engages in additional learning opportunities to enhance professional competence, including:
    • 1. Committee participation
    • 2. Staff meetings
    • 3. Mandatory in-services and educational programs
    • 4. Self and peer performance evaluations to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
    • B) Arrives at work as scheduled and begins duties promptly.
    • C) Acts as a resource for co-workers, patients/families, medical staff, and ancillary personnel.
    • D) Identifies issues, gathers relevant data, proposes solutions, communicates through appropriate channels, and works towards resolution.

  • 6) Safety/Infection Control: Adheres to safety and infection control policies. (5%)
    • A) Implements universal precautions and disposes of hazardous waste according to established guidelines.
    • B) Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff in line with hospital standards.
    • C) Reports risk management issues.
    • D) Completes all annual mandatory training requirements.
    • E) Remains alert and operates in a safe manner.
  • 7) Service: Delivers exceptional service to our customers by providing timely, high-quality care in a respectful manner. (10%)
    • A) Exhibits care and courtesy by:

    • A) Assists in developing unit-based performance improvement plans.
    • B) Collects performance improvement data as assigned.
    • C) Participates in discussions regarding performance improvement outcomes.
    • D) Collaborates in creating and implementing action plans.
    • E) Engages in research activities within the nursing unit.
  • 9) Age-Appropriate Care: Provides care suitable for various age groups:

    • A) Demonstrates knowledge of normal growth and development to provide appropriate services.

  • 10) Specialized Care: Offers specialized care to patients at high risk for injury. (<1%)
    • A) Restraint Care:
    • 1) Evaluates alternatives to restraint before application.
    • 2) Applies restraints according to approved procedures.
    • 3) Monitors and assesses patient responses during the restraint period.
    • 4) Provides timely care for toileting, skin care, hydration, and feeding.
    • 5) Facilitates trial release and removal of restraints as soon as feasible.
    • B) Pain Management (for licensed personnel):
    • 1) Assesses pain presence upon admission and during evaluations.
    • 2) Incorporates cultural/spiritual beliefs into pain management plans.
    • 3) Implements preventive pain management techniques.
    • C) Abuse Assessment:
    • 1) Recognizes abuse criteria and incorporates it into assessments.
    • 2) Reports signs of potential abuse/neglect to the physician and Risk Management.

Job Specifications:

Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing school or equivalent education for licensing.

Minimum Experience: One year of medical-surgical experience required; Critical Care or Post Anesthesia Care experience preferred.

Required Course: Advanced Life Support (ALS).

Working Conditions:
