Job Description

About the Role

BETA Systems International (BSI) holds a contract with the Clerk of the Court and Comptroller of Miami-Dade County to provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services. We are building a bench of qualified interpreters to support court operations across three service groups: jury pool interpretation, non-jury pool in-person interpretation, and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI). Assignments are issued on an as-needed basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ASL interpretation for court proceedings, jury pool sessions, public records requests, marriage license appointments, official swearing-in ceremonies, and community outreach events.
  • Deliver services in person at Miami-Dade County Clerk locations or via VRI platform, depending on the assignment group.
  • Arrive and sign in no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Remain available for the full duration of each scheduled assignment, including extended hours when required.
  • Provide confirmation of name and active certification to the contracting office within 48 hours of assignment notification.
  • Coordinate with BSI scheduling staff to confirm availability and coverage for surge periods or extended assignments of eight hours or more.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all proceedings and comply with applicable court protocols.

Required Qualifications

Certification is non-negotiable. Candidates must hold one of the following active credentials issued by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID):

  • National Interpreter Certification (NIC)
  • Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)

No other certification — state-issued, organizational, or otherwise — meets the contract requirements. Expired credentials do not qualify. Candidates must submit a copy of their active RID certification with their application.

Experience interpreting in legal, judicial, or court settings is required. Interpreters must demonstrate proficiency in legal and court-related terminology, including terminology used in jury proceedings and formal hearings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting government or public-sector clients
  • Familiarity with VRI platforms and equipment
  • Experience in settings requiring dual-interpreter rotation for assignments exceeding two hours

Compensation

BSI pays on a per-assignment basis in accordance with contract billing schedules. Billable time starts at the scheduled assignment start time. Time worked beyond the scheduled period is billed in 15-minute increments. Minimum billable durations apply per assignment group.
