Job Description
DEFINITION: Licensed Practical Nurses are responsible for assisting patients in achieving a safe and positive recovery lifestyle from the period of withdrawal through residential care treatment. LPN(s) adhere to the state board of nursing guidelines of standard practice, as well Midwest Recovery Centers policy and procedures for LPNs.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Nursing
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor patients condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice
Observe and interpret patients symptoms and communicate them to Medical Provider(s)
Collaborate with Provider to create individualized care plans for patients
Perform routine procedures (blood pressure measurements, administering injections, IV insertion etc) and fill in patients’ charts
Conduct detox admission assessments and provide patient care during acute detoxification process including pre-screening of patients, obtaining physical assessment and health history, administering detox treatment plans as ordered by supervising Provider, and ongoing monitoring of patient condition.
Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, preparing beds etc)
Provide instant medical care in emergencies and be competent in triaging emergencies for acute needs
Supervise, train, and oversee nursing assistants and non medical staff
Foster a supportive and compassionate environment to care for patients and their families
Expand knowledge and capabilities by attending educational workshops, conferences etc.
Other duties within and outside of these dimensions as they arise within scope of practice or this position and level of responsibility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Training/Experience
Proven experience as a licensed practical nurse
Diploma from a nursing program with LPN designation
CPR or BLS certification
Valid nursing license in the state of employment
Special Skills and knowledge
Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
Excellent knowledge of emergency care, addiction medicine and mental health services
In depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc) and willingness to follow them at all times
A team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsible and compassionate in a nonjudgmental environment
Outstanding organizational and multi-tasking skills
Aware of techniques to provide supportive intervention and ability to employ those techniques in acute situations
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This person must be of the conviction that substance use disorders and mental health conditions are treatable illnesses and constitute a public health problem.
This person must sign an agreement of permanent confidentiality covering all patient-related information.
This person must, on their own behalf, keep current all licensure and certifications that are applicable to their position.
As with all other Midwest Recovery employees, the person in that position shall have no history or evidence of alcoholism or other drug misuse for a period of 1 year immediately prior to the date of employment, and no misuse of alcohol or other drugs while employed with our agency.
