Job Description
Job Title: Truck Driver
Department: Backend / Logistics
FLSA Classification: Non-exempt (Hourly)
Reports To: Logistics/Operations Manager
Position Summary:
The Commercial Truck Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of custom doors to customer warehouses and active job sites. This role serves as a key point of contact for customers during delivery, ensuring product integrity, accurate documentation, and excellent service.
Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesDelivery & Unloading: Transport loads safely to designated locations. Responsible for moving heavy doors to the tailgate of the truck and assisting with/managing the unloading process.
Vehicle Maintenance & Inspection: Perform mandatory pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections. Maintain the truck's cleanliness, manage fueling, and promptly report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
Documentation & Compliance: Ensure 100% accuracy with delivery paperwork. Verify door counts, secure customer signatures on invoices, leave packing slips, and accurately collect and secure C.O.D. (Cash on Delivery) payments.
Hours of Service (HOS): Strictly adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and maintain accurate Hours of Service logs.
Customer Communication: Provide proactive, professional updates to customers regarding delivery windows, including immediate notification if running late or experiencing delays.
Safety Culture: Operate the vehicle and handle materials in a safe manner at all times, adhering to company safety protocols and DOT regulations to ensure an accident-free environment.
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
Proven experience driving 26’ and 37’ box trucks.
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or higher with a clean driving record.
Air Brake Endorsement is required.
Technical & Professional Skills:
Working knowledge of Electronic Logging Devices (ELD), specifically the GEOTAB system.
Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail (crucial for verifying inventory and handling financial transactions like CODs).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for customer-facing interactions.
Availability & Physical Demands:
Must be flexible and available to handle overnight travel routes (up to 3 days overnight per week).
Must be physically capable of moving, lifting, and sliding heavy material (doors) to the tailgate for offloading.
