The Role
The Journeyman Ironworker will be responsible for erecting and installing structural steel components on commercial construction projects while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. Success in this role means working efficiently with field teams to complete steel erection tasks, interpreting drawings accurately, and supporting project productivity through strong technical and leadership skills.
The role collaborates closely with field supervisors, crew members, and other trades to ensure projects are executed safely and according to specifications.
Responsibilities
- Erect structural steel components in accordance with OSHA and AISC standards.
- Raise, align, and connect beams, columns, and steel assemblies on active construction sites.
- Read and interpret erection drawings and shop drawings to execute installation accurately.
- Perform bolting, field fabrication, and welding activities as required.
- Install structural elements such as stairs, guardrails, and handrails.
- Use gridlines, benchmarks, and layout tools to ensure accurate placement of steel components.
- Maintain jobsite safety and follow established quality standards.
- Mentor apprentices and support small crew leadership when required.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Journeyman Ironworker within commercial construction.
- Experience with rigging and signaling procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel erection drawings.
- Experience performing field welding (including 3G & 4G SMAW) and bolting operations.
- Comfortable working at heights and in active construction environments.
- Proficiency with aerial platforms, forklifts, and standard ironworking tools.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction practices.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Nice to Have
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- Active welding certifications.
- Experience mentoring apprentices or leading small crews.
