Job Description
Overview
As an PRN MRI Technologist, you will be responsible for the integration of scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information. This responsibility includes completing scans effectively and efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of patient care possible in order to provide the most remarkable patient experience.
Location: University of Maryland Charles Regional Imaging
Hours: Flexible Mon-Fri 8-5
Responsibilities
1. Complete scans effectively and efficiently:
• Collect pertinent data about the patient and the procedure
• Select the most appropriate cost-effective action plan after reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition
• Screen patient for ferrous and RF-sensitive material before the patient enters the magnetic field
• Position and prepare patients for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures
• Select appropriate immobilization devices
• Review the patient’s chart and the physician’s request to determine optimal scanning parameters for the suspected pathology
• Prepare and administer contrast agents in accordance with state and federal regulations
• Enter necessary patient information to initiate the scan(s)
• Assess and monitor the patient’s physical and mental status throughout the procedure
• Review images to determine if additional scans will enhance the diagnostic value of the procedure
• Document diagnostic, treatment and patient data in the appropriate record. Documentation must be timely, accurate, concise and complete
• Archive images to data storage devices according to established guidelines
• Keep workflow in such a manner that it is an effective use of time, equipment and supplies
2. Maintain the highest standards of patient care possible:
• Provide accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient can understand
• Maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique
• Exhibit exemplary technical competence and clinical judgment
• Maintain a safe environment by monitoring cryogens
• Act as a preceptor for new employees
3. Special requirements:
• Follow radiation protection guidelines
• Participate in formal training and service programs
• Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to medical records and other data
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
- ARRT registered (R), (MR) required
- Active state licensure(s), where applicable
- CPR Certification is required
- Prior Experience: 2+ years of experience as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist
- Special Qualifications:
IV skills required
Advanced knowledge of MRI procedures and standards
Advanced skill in operation of MRI equipment
Demonstrate adequate knowledge of anatomy
