The Position

Federal Construction Project Manager

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Schedule: Full-Time | Office & Project Site Based



This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager looking to build a long-term career within the federal construction sector. The selected individual will oversee complex federal projects from preconstruction through closeout while serving as a key leader responsible for project success, client satisfaction, schedule performance, financial management, and team coordination.


The ideal candidate brings strong construction project management experience, exceptional leadership skills, and a desire to work on meaningful projects supporting military, government, and federal agency clients throughout the United States.


What You'll Do

  • Manage all phases of federal construction projects from award through closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Lead project planning, procurement, subcontractor management, and execution strategies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between owners, government representatives, architects, engineers, consultants, and project teams.
  • Manage contracts, RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with Superintendents, Quality Control Managers, and Safety personnel to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitor project financial performance and maintain profitability objectives.
  • Coordinate project activities while ensuring compliance with all contract requirements and federal standards.
  • Lead project meetings and provide executive-level reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor Project Engineers and support the development of future project management talent.



Requirements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience supporting federal, government, military, healthcare, institutional, or commercial construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Strong understanding of project budgeting, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor management, and contract administration.
  • Experience working with federal agencies such as USACE, NAVFAC, VA, DoD, GSA, USAF, or similar government clients is highly preferred.
  • Design-Build project experience strongly preferred.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and client management skills.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline preferred.
  • Ability to travel periodically as project assignments require.

Salary: $110,000 - $140,000 DOE
