ASC Support Specialist

The ASC Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the surgery center and the surgery center nurses.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists with ASC supply needs and restocks
• Maintains knowledge of pre/post-op medications
• Performs administrative duties pertinent to position
• Completes all pre/post-op documentation requirements
• Provides consent forms and obtains necessary signatures
• Brings consent and Advanced Directive issues to the attention of the ASC Manager
• Performs proper break-down and submission of surgical chart and route slips post-op
• Performs chart reviews and preparing charts for the next day cases
• Assists with patient flow and care at time of entry to the ASC and upon return to the PACU until discharge
• Ensures patient has met pre-op requirements
• Reconciles anesthesia records daily to allow billing by anesthesia providers
• Provides patient nourishment post-op under the direction of the PACU RN
• Prints and reviews surgery schedules and patient labels
• Reviews patient charts for appropriate orders, testing, and lenses
• Communicates and provides support for front desk, pre-op, and PACU
• Provides support for nurses, techs, and doctors with various tasks
• Confirms correct lenses are pulled for each case
• Provides discharge instructions for patients
• Obtains necessary signatures for patient forms
• Covers ASC front desk duties when needed

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday FT (shift start times could range from 5:30am-8:00am)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Knowledge of EHR/EMRs
• Knowledge of common pre- and post-op medications
• Knowledge of common equipment in an ASC, including care and maintenance practices
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
• Ability to use or learn computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, internet, e-mail, and NextGen

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma/GED
• BLS certification
• Experience in a surgery center (preferred)
