Job Description
Seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and clinical staff in a busy neurosurgery practice. This role provides both clinical and clerical support in a high-volume, fast-paced environment, including rooming patients, documenting vitals and chief complaints in the EMR, assisting with procedures, collecting specimens, and helping maintain smooth patient flow throughout the day.
The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, and able to work well under pressure while delivering professional, patient-centered support. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and document medications, vital signs, and reason for visit in the EMR.
- Perform screening and measuring procedures, including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature.
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for visits, exams, and special procedures.
- Collect blood and other laboratory specimens as ordered by the provider.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and assist with processing results as directed.
- Enter proposed orders into the EMR for provider review and approval.
- Obtain outside records, imaging, and prior test results from labs, radiology offices, and physician practices.
- Explain treatment instructions, medications, and follow-up guidance clearly and professionally.
- Clean and sterilize instruments, dispose of contaminated supplies, and maintain exam room readiness.
- Maintain adequate inventory and ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and prepared for patient care.
- Support administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and updating telephone encounters.
- Follow patient flow, visit completion, HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
- Computer and/or EMR experience required.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Self-directed, self-motivated, and able to multitask in a high-stress environment.
- Professional phone etiquette and a patient-centered approach.
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and patients in a specialty care setting.
Schedule: M-F 8:00am - 4:00pm
