Job Description
Legal Advocate - Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program
Renewal House is seeking a compassionate, organized and motivated Legal Advocate to provide trauma-informed advocacy and support services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This position focuses on helping to navigate complex legal systems, drafting family offense petitions and providing accompaniment to court for support.
This position requires strong communication skills, professionalism, empathy and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working in emotionally challenging situations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist survivors in understanding legal processes, including family court, criminal court, orders of protection and victim rights
- Accompany survivors to court proceedings, law enforcement interviews and other legal-related appointments as needed
- Collaborate with community partners including law enforcement, attorneys, probation, DSS, hospitals and other services providers
- Provide direct client support, crisis intervention and advocacy as needed

- Ability to remain calm during crisis situations
- Strong advocacy and problem-solving skills
- Background knowledge of the legal system is preferred
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
A degree in criminal justice, counseling, social work, human services, or a related field is strongly preferred, but not required. Relevant experience in crisis counseling, human services, or lived experience will also be considered.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and phone
- Ability to pass required background checks
- Flexibility to accommodate occasional evening/weekends for community events
