Overview

Responsibilities

Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, and test analyses, ensuring accurate reporting and record-keeping of patient test results.

Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested consistently with patient specimens.

Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures in accordance with department standard operating procedures.

Review and release test results, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines to maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment.

Follow quality control policies, document all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance performed on lab instruments.

Identify and troubleshoot potential issues affecting test performance or reporting, taking corrective actions as needed.

Report STAT or critical results promptly to clients, following established protocols.

Respond to questions from customers or lab personnel when applicable, providing professional support.

Maintain complete records of all testing activities conducted on-site, ensuring data integrity.

Ensure the general appearance and organization of the laboratory department are maintained.

Verify reagent and test kit expiration dates and proper documentation of open dates.

Participate in training on new procedures and attend departmental meetings and safety training sessions.

Assist in inspections by governmental or regulatory agencies as required.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support laboratory operations.

Required Skills

Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing procedures and protocols.

Proficiency in computer skills with the ability to adapt to multiple laboratory systems.

Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) practices.

Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize work efficiently and handle multiple procedures simultaneously.

Effective communication skills for interaction with department staff and clients.

Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and data security.

Additional Skills & Requirements

Education: BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology; or Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology. Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF. US-educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.

Certification: Possession of or eligibility for national certification as an MT/MLT from recognized organizations such as ASCP or AMT.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high complexity testing is preferred; highly complex testing experience is advantageous for those with a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.

Licensure: Must hold or be eligible for State and National licensure as required.

Schedule: Initially trained for a 10a-6:30p Tuesday-Saturday schedule; long-term schedule will be 4a-12:30p.
