Overview

Perform general support functions within the specimen processing department, including presorting, pickup, and delivery of specimens to the laboratory.
Handle imaging and microfilming of specimens, as well as centrifugation and aliquoting processes.
Ensure all functions are performed with accuracy, confidence, and in a timely manner to meet departmental standards.
Learn and understand different specimen types and the related tests ordered by clients.
Comply with safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to support workflow and quality standards.
Participate in a production environment with a focus on productivity and quality with adherence to departmental deadlines.
Work primarily on the night shift, with flexibility required for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime shifts as needed.
Perform data entry with a high level of accuracy, processing up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour in a biohazard environment.
Required Skills
Data entry proficiency with the ability to input large volumes of alphanumeric data accurately and efficiently.
Basic computer skills, with a preference for familiarity with laboratory testing and specimen processing.
Strong organization skills and the ability to learn complex specimen types and related testing procedures.
Effective communication skills with all levels of staff.
Ability to work in a biohazard environment while adhering to safety protocols.
Flexibility and adaptability to changing daily requirements and customer demands.
Additional Skills & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous laboratory or hospital laboratory experience preferred, especially in a production setting.
Medical background or knowledge of medical terminology applicable to clinical laboratories is a plus.
Experience in specimen processing or related healthcare fields is preferred.
Ability to work primarily on the night shift, with required flexibility for weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
