Job Title: Janitor – Hospital Environment (3rd Shift)

Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within a hospital. You will clean patient rooms and common areas, remove trash, sanitize high-touch surfaces, and support room turnover between patients while working around nurses, patients, and other staff. Strong attention to detail and a customer service mindset are essential, as you will contribute directly to the comfort and safety of everyone in the facility.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize patient rooms, including furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces, to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
• Clean and maintain hallways, corridors, and other common areas to ensure they remain tidy, presentable, and free of debris.
• Perform trash removal from assigned areas, including patient rooms, hallways, and common spaces, and dispose of waste according to hospital procedures.
• Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors in rooms, hallways, and other designated areas to maintain a clean and orderly appearance.
• Turn over rooms efficiently after patients leave by cleaning, sanitizing, and preparing them for the next patient in accordance with hospital standards.
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors, and ensure they remain stocked with necessary supplies.
• Replenish supplies such as paper products, soap, and other consumables in rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
• Sanitize and disinfect surfaces and equipment in assigned areas to support infection control and a safe environment.
• Perform wall cleaning and spot cleaning as needed to maintain a neat and professional appearance of the facility.
• Work cooperatively in populated areas with nurses, patients, and other staff, maintaining a professional, courteous, and customer service–oriented demeanor.
• Follow established hospital cleaning procedures, safety guidelines, and environmental services standards at all times.
• Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply needs to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

Essential Skills

• Previous janitorial, housekeeping, or cleaning experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment.
• Experience with hospital cleaning or environmental services, including sanitizing rooms and high-touch surfaces.
• Demonstrated ability to turn over rooms efficiently and prepare them for new patients.
• Proficiency in sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors, including maintaining cleanliness of hallways and rooms.
• Experience cleaning bathrooms and replenishing supplies such as paper products and soap.
• Ability to perform thorough trash removal and handle waste in accordance with established procedures.
• Strong understanding of sanitizing and disinfecting practices to support a safe and hygienic environment.
• Customer service–oriented mindset with the ability to interact professionally with patients, nurses, and other staff.
• Reliability and consistency in following cleaning schedules, checklists, and hospital protocols.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing assigned areas effectively.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in housekeeping or environmental services in a healthcare or similar high-traffic setting.
• Experience sanitizing rooms and maintaining cleanliness standards that support infection control.
• Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment commonly used in janitorial and housekeeping roles.
• Comfort working overnight hours and maintaining productivity during 3rd shift.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
• Ability to communicate clearly and courteously with staff and patients when working in occupied areas.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital setting, working in populated areas alongside nurses, patients, and other staff. The schedule follows a 3rd shift pattern from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. You will work across patient rooms, hallways, bathrooms, and other common areas, using standard janitorial tools and cleaning supplies such as brooms, mops, vacuums, and sanitizing agents. The environment requires strict adherence to hospital cleaning protocols, safety guidelines, and infection-control practices. Attire should be practical and professional, suitable for a healthcare facility and for performing cleaning tasks safely and comfortably during overnight hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lehighton, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.25 - $17.25/hr.
