Actalent is hiring for a Laboratory Technician Jr in the Gretna, LA area!
Shift Requirement:
Candidates must be available to work flexible shifts, including day, swing, and night shifts.
About the Role
We are seeking a Screening Technician to join our Toxicology Laboratory in Richmond. This SAMHSA-certified lab performs regulated substance abuse testing using advanced instrumentation. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting initial screening of urine and oral fluid specimens for drugs of abuse, in accordance with SAMHSA guidelines and other regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain screening instruments used for toxicology testing
- Perform initial analysis and review of donor specimens and quality control samples
- Conduct testing using laboratory equipment such as refractometers and pH meters
- Troubleshoot and resolve instrument or testing issues
- Ensure strict adherence to confidentiality and data security protocols
- Follow all regulatory and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field
- Familiarity with HPLC
- Experience with pipetting and working with Ph-Meters
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of analytical laboratory techniques and procedures
- Experience with laboratory instrumentation and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or similar lab software

- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Capability to perform tasks requiring full range of motion and physical activity
- Vision and hearing corrected to meet standard requirements
- Strong analytical, math, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret regulatory guidelines, including 49 CFR Part 40, CAP-FDT standards
- Effective communication skills with team members and supervisors
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment
- Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Potential exposure to toxic or hazardous materials
Work Environment
This role is based in a regulated laboratory environment and requires adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards at all times.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
