Job Title: Cylinder Handler

Job Description

This role focuses on safely receiving, inspecting, refurbishing, and certifying cylinders in an industrial manufacturing environment. You will handle physical labor tasks, maintain accurate production and inventory records, and support a strong health and safety culture while working on a first-shift schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming cylinders, inspect them for quality and safety, and certify them according to established procedures.
  • Prepare outgoing cylinders by inspecting, tagging, and certifying them to meet production and safety standards.
  • Use hand tools to scrape paint and refurbish cylinders, ensuring they meet visual and functional requirements.
  • Assist supervisors with tracking incoming and outgoing production inventory, including accurate counts and status updates.
  • Complete all required paperwork such as production reports, downtime records, inspection forms, and other documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate actively in a strong Health and Safety culture, following all safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
  • Operate handheld tools and equipment safely and efficiently as required for cylinder handling and refurbishing.
  • Follow detailed job instructions and standard operating procedures to ensure consistent quality and productivity.
  • Use basic computer systems to enter data, review production information, and support inventory tracking.
  • Read and interpret measurement readings from pressure gauges, scales, and other measuring devices to verify product specifications.
  • Meet established performance goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, quality, and safety.
  • Lift, move, and position cylinders and materials, including frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., and perform tasks that require bending, sitting, squatting, and standing for long periods.
  • Support packaging, warehouse distribution, and general labor tasks as needed to meet production demands.
  • Work overtime when necessary to support production schedules and customer needs.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and clearly communicate in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as bending, sitting, squatting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Experience with general labor, production, or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to operate handheld tools safely and effectively.
  • Capability to refurbish and scrape cylinders using hand tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow job instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret measurement readings, including pressure gauges and scales.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and production reporting.
  • Basic math skills for measurements, counts, and documentation.
  • Ability to meet performance goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
  • Ability to work safely in a non-climate-controlled industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to stand for extensive periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and BG check.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Warehouse distribution, packaging, and general labor experience.
  • Manufacturing experience involving inspecting, tagging, lifting, and production work.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Comfort using hand tools for scraping paint and refurbishing cylinders.
  • Strong attention to detail when inspecting and certifying cylinders.
  • Reliability and consistency in completing paperwork such as production reports, downtime logs, and inspection forms.
  • Comfort working with performance targets and metrics.
  • Interest in learning and participating in a structured training program.
  • Openness to obtaining additional certifications and participating in professional development opportunities.

Work Environment

This position is based in a non-climate-controlled industrial manufacturing facility, where you will work primarily on the first shift from approximately 6:00 a.m. to between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., depending on production needs. The work involves handling cylinders, using hand tools, and operating in a busy production and warehouse environment. All new employees must wear steel-toe footwear starting on their first day. The dress code requires work pants or jeans and short-sleeve T-shirts or jackets as needed; shorts and sleeveless tops are not permitted. Required personal protective equipment is provided, including a safety vest, safety glasses, and gloves. Employees may wear neon yellow T-shirts or jackets without a vest if they prefer. Because the facility is not close to many food options within a 30-minute lunch break, employees are encouraged to bring their own lunch. The environment emphasizes safety, with structured procedures, PPE requirements, and performance expectations that support both productivity and employee well-being.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
