Behavioral Health Technician

Department: Psychiatric ICU 1 (AHSH CBH)
Schedule: 5×8s, no set days, every other weekend
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Requirements: LVN or LPT license, BLS, CPI (preferred; can be obtained onsite), 1 year psych experience

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician provides direct and indirect psychiatric patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role supports patients across age groups in a 61‑bed psychiatric facility, assisting with therapeutic interventions, safety monitoring, and daily care needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Utilize de‑escalation and least‑restrictive interventions

• Assist with admissions, discharges, and intake interviews

• Monitor and document patient behavior, symptoms, vital signs, and safety concerns

• Support therapeutic and recreational activities

• Communicate patient status changes to nursing staff

• Administer medications per physician orders and obtain consent forms

• Conduct routine rounding and maintain a safe environment

• Reinforce patient and family education plans

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required

• LVN/LPN or LPT license required

• CPI/TEAM certification required (or obtained onsite)

• BLS required

• 1+ year psychiatric experience preferred
