Superintendent – Ground-Up Construction
Location: Dallas, TX
About the Company
Our client is a nationally recognized commercial general contractor specializing in retail, grocery, restaurant, hospitality, and commercial construction projects across the United States. Their team is known for delivering high-quality projects while building lasting relationships with clients, subcontractors, and employees.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee large-scale ground-up grocery store construction projects throughout the Dallas area and the surrounding region.
Position Summary
The Superintendent is responsible for managing all field operations on assigned ground-up grocery construction projects from site mobilization through final turnover. This individual will ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while maintaining strong relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
This position requires extensive experience leading ground-up commercial construction, coordinating multiple trades, and maintaining aggressive project schedules.
Project range: $10M - $50M
Responsibilities
- Manage all on-site construction activities for ground-up grocery store projects from mobilization through completion.
- Lead the daily coordination of subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and client representatives.
- Develop and maintain project schedules while ensuring key milestones are achieved.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company safety standards.
- Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project documents to ensure proper execution.
- Identify and resolve field issues quickly to keep projects on schedule.
- Perform quality control inspections throughout all phases of construction.
- Coordinate inspections, punch lists, commissioning activities, and final closeout.
- Maintain daily reports, project documentation, and progress updates.
- Manage material deliveries, equipment, and site logistics.
- Communicate regularly with Project Managers regarding schedule, budget, change orders, and project status.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with contract documents, local building codes, and company quality standards.
Qualifications
- Multiple years of experience as a Commercial Construction Superintendent.
- Proven experience leading ground-up grocery store, retail, or other large commercial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, structural systems, and building systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent scheduling and subcontractor coordination skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software (Procore experience preferred).
- Willingness to travel as required for assigned projects.
Preferred Experience
- Ground-up construction experience for grocery stores, big-box retail, distribution, or other large commercial facilities.
- Experience working with national or regional grocery clients such as Kroger, Albertsons, Tom Thumb, H-E-B, Neighborhood Market, Whole Foods, Sprouts, Aldi, Lidl, or similar retailers.
- Experience managing projects from sitework and foundations through building turnover.
- Success delivering fast-track commercial construction projects.
