Join our dynamic team at Wellness Ranch in Franklin, Kentucky! Wellness Ranch, a proud member of Quadrant Health Group, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON) to lead nursing operations at our residential addiction treatment facility.

This leadership role oversees the nursing department and medical services, ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant delivery of healthcare in a residential substance use disorder treatment setting. The Director of Nursing partners closely with the Executive Director, Medical Director, and clinical leadership to ensure exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership and management of nursing services, including medication management, staff supervision, infection prevention, quality improvement, medical documentation, and regulatory compliance.

This position ensures compliance with:

  • Kentucky Board of Nursing standards
  • Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) and Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities (DBHDID) licensing requirements
  • Kentucky Administrative Regulations (908 KAR) governing residential alcohol and other drug treatment entities
  • Federal regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
  • Joint Commission and/or CARF accreditation standards, as applicable

Key Responsibilities

Nursing & Clinical Leadership

  • Direct, supervise, and mentor all nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).
  • Oversee safe medication management, including storage, administration, reconciliation, inventory, and disposal.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant nursing documentation.
  • Conduct and oversee comprehensive nursing assessments in collaboration with providers and the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Monitor detoxification protocols, withdrawal management, and psychiatric medication administration as appropriate.
  • Ensure nursing care is evidence-based, patient-centered, and aligned with organizational policies.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain compliance with Kentucky CHFS/DBHDID licensing requirements and applicable Kentucky Administrative Regulations.
  • Lead preparation for state inspections, regulatory surveys, and accreditation reviews.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control programs.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, OSHA, and other applicable healthcare regulations.

Leadership & Staff Development

  • Recruit, onboard, supervise, coach, and evaluate nursing personnel.
  • Develop ongoing clinical education and competency programs.
  • Provide training related to:
    • Medication administration and safety
    • Vital signs and patient monitoring
    • Recognition of medical and psychiatric emergencies
    • Infection prevention
    • Emergency response procedures
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and team-oriented culture.
  • Educate patients regarding medications, wellness, health maintenance, and recovery support.

Care Coordination

  • Coordinate care with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacies, laboratories, hospitals, and outside healthcare providers.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and emergency response planning.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leadership to ensure continuity of care throughout the treatment process.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
  • Experience in behavioral health, addiction medicine, detoxification, psychiatric nursing, residential treatment, or medical-surgical nursing strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Kentucky Board of Nursing standards and behavioral healthcare regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Current CPR/BLS certification (ACLS preferred).
  • Ability to successfully pass criminal background screening, drug screening, TB testing, and all required pre-employment health screenings.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, if client transportation is required.
  • Successful completion of facility orientation and ongoing mandatory training.
