CIP Project Engineer

Location: Minster, OH

Job Type: 4-month contract, with potential to extend based on business need

Pay: $50/hour

Schedule: M-F Day Shift with flexibility to support shifts when CIP and cleaning activity is occurring

Position Summary

A leading food and beverage manufacturing facility is seeking a CIP Project Engineer to support plant operations by monitoring cleaning system quality, compliance, and documentation. This role will focus heavily on Clean-in-Place and Clean-out-of-Place audit activity, sanitation system verification, corrective action follow-up, and documentation control for plant processing equipment.

The right candidate will understand dairy or food manufacturing environments, be comfortable working directly on the plant floor, and have the technical ability to interpret drawings, cleaning sequences, flow paths, sanitation data, and CIP system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed analysis of CIP systems using documentation and field observation.
  • Verify CIP/COP concentrations, flows, pressure, time, temperature, and cleaning effectiveness.
  • Conduct CIP observations in the field during active cleaning windows.
  • Interpret audit results and define corrective action plans.
  • Verify existing CIP drawings for multiple types of plant equipment.
  • Create missing documentation such as pinning charts, flow diagrams, and related CIP support documents.
  • Control and distribute CIP documentation to appropriate plant personnel.
  • Review flow diagrams and pinning charts for equipment installations or modifications.
  • Understand cleaning sequences, including pin charts, flow paths, chemicals, and sanitation steps.
  • Maintain a prioritized list of all CIP circuits.
  • Maintain an annual audit schedule for CIP circuits.
  • Review plant microbiology results and prioritize audits based on trends or risk.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Processing, Maintenance, and Quality teams.
  • Follow all plant safety requirements, including confined space, lockout/tagout, wet environment safety, and related procedures.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related experience in food, beverage, dairy, sanitation, process engineering, project engineering, quality, or plant operations.
  • Experience with CIP systems, sanitation programs, cleaning validation, or hygienic processing equipment.
  • Ability to review and interpret CAD drawings, equipment manuals, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of basic dairy or food manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to work with CIP literature, cleaning chemicals, titrations, and chemical vendors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in wet, cold, and active plant environments while conducting audits.
  • Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Prior project engineering, sanitation, capital project, or food manufacturing engineering experience is highly preferred.
