Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Metrology Engineer who is responsible for leading the utilization and optimization of high-precision measurement systems to support the manufacture and qualification of optical components and assemblies.
Location
U.S. (Sunnyvale, CA – 501 Mercury Drive) – Onsite five days per week.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead development, optimization and implementation of metrology methods for optical components including lenses, mirrors, prisms, and coatings utilizing instrumentation such as interferometers, profilometers, CMMs, and custom optical test setups.
• Provide technical leadership in analysis of metrology results.
• Establish and maintain robust process control strategies to achieve ultra-tight tolerances and reduce variability.
• Lead root cause investigations for yield losses, surface defects, and dimensional non-conformances.
• Oversee calibration programs and ensure metrology equipment traceability to national and international standards.
• Review and interpret optical drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements; mentor others in best practices.
• Develop and maintain documentation including procedures, validation reports, and quality system records.
• Partner with design, quality, and manufacturing teams to influence product design for manufacturability and metrology readiness.
This role includes the responsibilities outlined above as well as other duties as reasonably assigned to support business needs and operational priorities.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in precision optics, photonics, or high-precision manufacturing environments.
• Hands-on experience with optical metrology instrumentations.
• Strong understanding of optical tolerancing, surface finish, and form measurement
• Ability to read and interpret optical drawings and GD&T.
• Demonstrated leadership in troubleshooting and solving complex technical challenges.
