Job Summary:
The Petroleum Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of petroleum equipment, including fuel dispensers, underground and aboveground storage tanks, point-of-sale systems, leak detection systems, and related hardware. The technician ensures compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry codes while providing high-quality service to clients in retail and commercial fueling environments.
Key Responsibilities:
· Install, calibrate, and maintain petroleum dispensing systems and fuel management hardware/software
· Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment, including pumps, dispensers, card readers, sensors, and POS systems
· Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and compliance checks
· Diagnose issues in fuel systems including electrical, mechanical, and software components
· Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used, and service reports
· Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations related to fuel systems and safety (e.g., EPA, OSHA, NFPA)
· Communicate clearly with customers and internal teams to coordinate service calls and follow-ups
· Maintain a clean and organized work vehicle and ensure proper care and accountability of tools and equipment
· Participate in on-call rotation for emergency repairs
· Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics
· Any other assigned duties from management
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required; technical school or certifications preferred
· 2+ years of experience in petroleum equipment service or a similar field
· Familiarity with brands such as Gilbarco, Veeder-Root, Wayne, Red Jacket, and others is a strong asset
· Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
· Strong problem-solving and customer service skills
· Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in various weather conditions
· Willingness to travel to job sites and work flexible hours when needed
· Certifications such as PEI, API, or manufacturer training (preferred)
Work Environment:
· Field-based role with frequent travel to client sites
· Exposure to outdoor conditions, fuel vapors, and hazardous materials (PPE provided)
· May require working from ladders, in confined spaces, or underground
