Job Title: Payroll Supervisor
Location: Bethesda, MD (Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Work Status: US Citizen or Green Card Holder required
Duration: ASAP – November 2026 with potential for extension
Overview:
We are seeking a Payroll Supervisor to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will leverage your extensive payroll expertise to manage biweekly payroll processing for approximately 1,300 employees, including full-time, part-time, seasonal, and contracted staff across multiple states. This position offers a unique blend of operational leadership, technical proficiency, and compliance management within a dynamic government contracting environment.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the end-to-end processing of multi-state payrolls, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee payroll transactions, including new hires, terminations, and adjustments, all while maintaining strict compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Support the preparation and submission of federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Assist in audit preparation and respond to audit requests with detailed reports and documentation.
- Collaborate proactively with HR on timesheet corrections, employee onboarding, and offboarding processes within the payroll system.
- Generate comprehensive payroll reports to support fiscal, funding, and benefit reporting requirements.
- Calculate and process payroll adjustments, including terminations and corrections, ensuring accurate accounting entries.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies or issues for all employees, providing prompt, clear solutions.
- Support Workers’ Compensation administrative processes as needed.
- Maintain employee confidence by safeguarding payroll data and ensuring confidentiality.
- Support departmental initiatives to improve controls, mitigate compliance risks, and streamline payroll operations.
- Provide first-line support for payroll-related inquiries through the internal Payroll Help Desk.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in payroll, finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of payroll processing experience, with at least 5 years in a government contracting environment.
- Proven expertise with government payroll ERP systems, preferably Dayforce/Ceridian and Deltek CostPoint.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to support compliance and mitigate risks effectively.
- Preferred: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
