Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports providers in a busy primary care clinic by performing a blend of clinical, administrative, and clerical duties to ensure patients receive high-quality, efficient, and compassionate care. This role helps patients feel comfortable in the office, clearly explains provider instructions, and ensures that exam rooms, records, and workflows are well organized to support a smooth patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms in a timely manner and notify the provider when the patient is ready to be seen.
  • Participate in the daily morning huddle to ensure all laboratory and diagnostic test results are available in the patient chart prior to appointments.
  • Maintain exam rooms by ensuring they are appropriately stocked, organized, and clean at all times.
  • Conduct the initial patient intake, including confirming the reason for visit, documenting symptoms, and obtaining vital signs such as weight, height, blood pressure, and temperature.
  • Verify and update all current medications, medical allergies, and patient contact information in the medical record.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures according to provider instructions and clinic protocols.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
  • Instruct patients on medications, special diets, and other provider-directed care instructions in a clear and supportive manner.
  • Transmit prescription refill requests as directed by the provider, following appropriate documentation and verification procedures.
  • Monitor and follow up on diagnostic tests, medication refills, blood work results, and other outstanding patient care items as directed.
  • Use computer applications and electronic medical record (EMR) systems to document visits, enter data, and manage patient information accurately.
  • Update, organize, and file patient medical records to ensure accurate and complete documentation.
  • Assist with ordering and tracking medical, laboratory, and office supplies to support continuous clinic operations.
  • Perform general administrative and reporting tasks, including data entry and documentation, to support providers and clinic workflows.
  • Communicate with patients by phone to assist with questions, follow-up instructions, and coordination of care, as needed.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma.
  • Approximately 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, with flexibility to consider less experience for candidates with a strong work ethic.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
  • CPR certification, or willingness to obtain CPR certification within a defined timeframe.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and data entry.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Phlebotomy skills and comfort working with medical procedures and clinical tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant certification, registration, or completion of a Medical Assistant diploma program preferred.
  • Experience using Athena electronic medical record (EMR) software preferred, with training available for candidates willing to learn.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills strongly preferred for reporting and administrative tasks.
  • Previous experience with reporting, documentation, and general administrative duties preferred.
  • Experience performing EKGs, administering injections, and providing nebulizer treatments preferred.
  • Experience assisting patients by phone, including scheduling, follow-ups, and answering routine questions, strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to help patients feel at ease and clearly explain provider instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment as part of a collaborative care team.

Work Environment

This role is 100% onsite in a primary care clinic located in North Miami. The Medical Assistant works closely with a single physician or provider in a one-on-one capacity while also collaborating with a broader clinical team. The clinic operates as a high-volume environment, with each provider typically seeing 12–16 patients per day. The standard schedule is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The setting is professional and patient-focused, with regular use of electronic medical records, computer applications, and standard medical equipment and supplies to support daily clinical and administrative tasks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
