Job Title: Quality Technician – Structural Steel Welding
Job Description
This role focuses on welding and fitting heavy structural steel components used in buildings and construction projects. You will perform flux core and MIG welding, interpret blueprints, use quality tools, and collaborate closely with experienced team members and architects to meet precise structural and aesthetic requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform flux core .045 and MIG welding on heavy structural steel components for buildings and construction projects.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to understand weld symbols, dimensions, and fabrication requirements.
- Use quality tools and measuring equipment to verify dimensions, alignment, and weld quality against specifications.
- Collaborate closely with architects and project stakeholders to understand design intent and incorporate feedback into fabrication and welding work.
- Work alongside and learn from experienced welders and fitters to continuously improve technique, efficiency, and quality.
- Fit and position structural steel components prior to welding to ensure proper alignment and structural integrity.
- Perform fabrication tasks such as cutting, grinding, and preparing materials for welding.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Inspect completed welds for defects and make necessary adjustments or repairs to meet quality standards.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and efficient facility by supporting general housekeeping and proper use of tools and equipment.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of flux core or MIG welding experience.
- 3+ years of structural steel welding or fabrication experience.
- Proficiency in flux core welding (including .045 wire).
- Proficiency in MIG welding on heavy steel components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints for structural steel fabrication.
- Experience working with structural steel in a fabrication or construction environment.
- Strong understanding of weld quality standards and basic quality tools.
- Ability to perform fitting and alignment of steel components prior to welding.
- Commitment to working safely and maintaining a clean work area.

Work Environment
The role is based in a smaller, clean, and well-maintained fabrication facility focused on heavy structural steel work. You will work with welding equipment for flux core and MIG processes, quality tools, and blueprint documentation on a daily basis. The facility operates on multiple shifts, with a first shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and a second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and efficient workflow, providing a professional setting for skilled welders and fitters.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
