The Chemist I position is responsible for sample preparation and analysis, recording of preparation and analysis methods, sample storage, laboratory maintenance, and sample disposition. The role involves training to become proficient in the preparation and analysis of specific sample types within the Analytical Chemistry Group. Additional responsibilities may be added as required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment.
- Ensure sample tracking, disposal, and archiving are performed in accordance with established procedures, including the use of the Laboratory Information Maintenance System (LIMS).
- Maintain laboratory preparation and analytical supplies and equipment.
- Interact with supervisors and analysts regarding sample preparation and analysis.
- Follow written Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for sample preparation and quality.
- Prepare and analyze high-quality samples using laboratory equipment, such as HPLC, GC, GC/MS, ICP, FTIR, in a timely manner with limited supervision.
- Prevent contamination or cross-contamination of reagents and samples.
- Perform analytical analysis in accordance with EPA, GLP, GMP, or other regulatory agencies without close supervision.
- Meet and pass all required external individual QC sample rounds the first time.
- Maintain project lab and log books as required by QC, SOPs, and Protocols.
- Report any out-of-service or out-of-specification issues immediately to management and/or the Quality Department.
- Adhere to all required documentation protocols.
- Perform assigned analytical methods with accuracy and precision without close supervision.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in chemistry and laboratory techniques.
- Experience with ICP, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and general lab equipment.
- Ability to conduct analytical chemistry and wet chemistry.
- Familiarity with quality control and laboratory equipment, including GC and gas chromatography.
- Understanding of SOP, QC, and GMP standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- BS in Chemistry, Material Science, Biology, or a related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of laboratory experience.
- University degree may be waived at the discretion of the supervisor.
- Experience in a laboratory environment is preferred.
Work Environment
The work environment is a laboratory setting with a schedule from Monday to Friday. The lab requires coverage from 9 am to 3:30 pm. The culture is laid-back with flexibility in scheduling, emphasizing an employee-oriented approach with good internal benefits. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.85 - $33.65/hr.
