Overview

Join a leading healthcare laboratory team as a Specimen Processing Technician, where your attention to detail and organizational skills will play a vital role in delivering accurate and timely laboratory results. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a focus on quality and safety. Ideal for candidates with a data entry background and an interest in laboratory specimen processing, this role provides valuable experience in a critical area of healthcare diagnostics.

Responsibilities

Perform general support functions within the specimen processing department, including presorting, pickup, and delivery of laboratory specimens.

Operate equipment such as centrifuges, imaging/microfilming devices, and aliquoting stations to prepare specimens for testing.

Accurately perform data entry of specimen information and test details, managing up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

Maintain compliance with safety and laboratory regulations, practicing good safety habits in a biohazard environment.

Ensure work areas remain clean and organized, supporting efficient workflow and quality standards.

Communicate effectively with team members across all levels and adapt to changing priorities and procedures.

Support department productivity and quality goals, adhering to departmental timelines and procedures.

Required Skills

Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and speed.

Basic understanding of computers and familiarity with laboratory testing or specimen processing preferred.

Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

Additional Skills & Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.

No previous laboratory experience necessary; prior laboratory or hospital experience is a plus.

Experience working in a production environment or in clinical laboratory settings is preferred.

Flexibility to work night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on staffing needs.

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and maintain safety protocols in a biohazard environment.

Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to changing procedures and demands.
