Under direction, provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, performs technical nursing functions and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
  • Provides direct patient care.
  • Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills.
  • Documents and maintains data on patient’s record.
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
  • Provides for life support.
  • Acts as a patient advocate.
  • Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
  • Participates in performance improvement.
  • Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Conducts herself/himself effectively in stressful situations.
  • Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
  • Provides basic nursing care under the directions of the Provider and Clinic Manager.

Education: Vocational/Technical degree in Practical Nursing required for LPN or Technical degree as Medical Assistant for MA.

Certification/License: Louisiana LPN license required for LPN or Certified Medical Assistant for MA. CPR required. ACLS preferred.

Additional Experience Preferred

  • One year of LPN experience preferred or One year MA experience preferred for MA.
  • Current knowledge of clinical practice
  • Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
