Senior CNC Setup and Process Optimization Technician Why this role matters

Drive reliable, efficient production by mastering setups, improving programs, and mentoring others on our CNC lathes and mills. Your expertise keeps uptime high, quality tight, and deliveries on schedule.

Key responsibilities
  • Execute complex setups and precise adjustments on Mazaks, Doosans, INDEX, and Nakamuras; verify calibration to production requirements.
  • Create, optimize, and maintain CNC programs, fixturing, tooling, and standardized setup methods.
  • Diagnose and resolve advanced CNC issues quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Perform setups across assigned cells and support CNC Operators/Tenders throughout runs and changeovers.
  • Conduct first-piece inspections; complete quality and production documentation; monitor in-process checks performed by tenders.
  • Log material usage, performance, and outputs accurately in the ERP system.
  • Provide on-floor guidance and training to operators/tenders; help them hit quality and OTD metrics.
  • Lead and document continuous improvement efforts that cut setup time, increase production rates, refine machining strategies, boost quality, and enhance safety.
  • Collaborate with Setup Technicians and Engineering to fine-tune programs, tooling paths, and setups.
  • Maintain setup sheets, monitoring logs, and other process records.
  • Manage scrap workflows for assigned facilities with proper documentation and controls.
  • Perform daily PMs on assigned equipment; partner with Maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Uphold safety standards, PPE usage, and a clean, organized work area.
  • Perform basic maintenance and assist with advanced tasks as needed.
  • Float between machines to support production priorities.
  • Report directly to the Production Supervisor and coordinate as needed with the Production Lead.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work environment and physical demands
  • Typical manufacturing environment.
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional lifts up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent hand/finger use; moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, grasping.
  • Safety glasses and steel-toed footwear required around machinery.
Schedule
  • Full-time (40+ hours/week).
  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, ~8 hours/day.
  • Occasional overtime, evening, and weekend work based on demand.
Compensation and rewards
  • Hiring range: $25–$37.50, based on market factors and your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and certifications.
  • Bonus: Eligible for company bonus; this role is currently in the Quarterly Bonus plan within the Individual Contributor tier.

Qualifications
  • 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma/GED or significant relevant experience.
  • 5+ years operating CNC machines across single-/multi-axis and single-/multi-turret platforms, including Mazaks, Doosans, INDEX, and Nakamuras.
  • Proficient with micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Comfortable with hand tools (drills, screwdrivers, impacts, etc.).
  • Can read/interpret blueprints and part schematics.
  • Read/write competency, basic math, and ability to follow written and verbal work instructions.
