Technical Laboratory Supervisor – Toxicology
Location: McKinney, TX
Job Type: Full-Time

About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Technical Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of a growing physician-owned toxicology laboratory supporting a busy pain management practice in McKinney, Texas.
This position is ideal for an experienced laboratory professional who enjoys working at the bench while leading day-to-day laboratory operations. The Technical Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for specimen accessioning, sample preparation, instrument operation, quality control, preventative maintenance, and workflow oversight.
Our laboratory utilizes an Agilent 6460 LC-MS/MS system for toxicology testing and an Indiko clinical chemistry analyzer.
The laboratory's quality management program, SOPs, data analysis, technical review, and result reporting are managed by our laboratory services partner, allowing the Technical Laboratory Supervisor to focus on efficient laboratory operations and technical execution.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Supervise the daily workflow of the laboratory to ensure efficient and accurate operations.
- Oversee specimen accessioning and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Perform specimen preparation for toxicology testing.
- Ensure laboratory turnaround times and workflow expectations are consistently met.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
Instrument Operation & Maintenance
- Operate the Agilent 6460 LC-MS/MS system and Indiko clinical chemistry analyzer.
- Perform daily instrument startup, quality control, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and coordinate service when needed.
- Monitor instrument performance and identify potential technical issues before they impact workflow.
- Maintain documentation related to equipment maintenance and quality checks.
Team Leadership
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support for laboratory personnel.
- Train new staff on laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
- Assist with scheduling and daily workload distribution.
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and patient-focused work environment.
Compliance & Communication
- Follow established laboratory procedures and quality standards.
- Work closely with the laboratory management partner regarding technical issues, quality concerns, and operational improvements.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and applicable laboratory regulations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory.
- Previous experience in a lead or supervisory laboratory role preferred.
- Strong understanding of specimen handling, laboratory workflow, and quality control.
- Experience operating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Experience with Agilent 6460 LC-MS/MS instrumentation.
- Experience in clinical toxicology or drugs-of-abuse testing.
- Experience operating an Indiko analyzer or similar automated chemistry platform.
- ASCP certification (MLS, MT, or equivalent).
- Experience working in a physician office laboratory (POL) or reference laboratory.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who is:
- A hands-on laboratory professional who enjoys working at the bench.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Comfortable balancing technical responsibilities with daily operational oversight.
- A collaborative leader who enjoys mentoring and supporting teammates.
- Committed to delivering high-quality laboratory services and excellent patient care.
Why Join Us?
This is an exciting opportunity to help support a modern physician-owned toxicology laboratory with the resources and backing of an experienced laboratory management organization.
You'll have the opportunity to work with advanced instrumentation, contribute to the growth of a dynamic laboratory, and play an important role in supporting patient care—all while focusing on laboratory operations rather than the administrative burden of managing a full quality system.
