Position Summary
The Regional Director of Nursing (RDON) provides clinical leadership, oversight, and support to multiple Assisted Living and Memory Care communities within an assigned region. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, clinical operations, and the ongoing development of RN Care Managers and nursing staff.
The RDON serves as the primary clinical resource for community leadership teams and works closely with Housing Directors, Regional Directors of Operations, and corporate leadership to ensure consistent delivery of quality care across all communities.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Quality Assurance:
- Provide leadership, coaching, and support to RN Care Managers throughout the assigned region.
- Promote clinical excellence through regular review of resident care practices, assessments, service plans, and medication management systems.
- Monitor clinical quality indicators and implement action plans to address identified opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure residents receive individualized care that promotes dignity, safety, independence, and quality of life.
- Support communities with admissions assessments, resident transitions, significant condition changes, and end-of-life care planning.
Regulatory Compliance & Survey Readiness:
- Ensure compliance with Minnesota Assisted Living licensing regulations, company policies, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Conduct routine clinical audits, documentation reviews, and mock surveys to evaluate compliance and operational readiness.
- Lead or assist with state surveys, complaint investigations, plans of correction, and follow-up activities.
- Monitor medication administration practices and ensure compliance with all medication management regulations.
Leadership Development & Team Support:
- Train, mentor, and develop RN Care Managers and other clinical leaders.
- Participate in interviewing, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and succession planning for nursing leadership positions.
- Foster accountability, engagement, and professional growth among nursing teams.
- Support ongoing education initiatives and ensure required clinical training is completed and maintained.
Operational Partnership:
- Collaborate with Housing Directors and Regional Directors of Operations to support community performance and resident satisfaction.
- Assist with implementation and standardization of clinical systems, workflows, and best practices across communities.
- Participate in regional meetings, leadership initiatives, and strategic planning efforts.
- Support census growth by assisting with clinical evaluations and collaborating with referral sources as needed.
Risk Management & Resident Safety:
- Investigate clinical incidents, resident concerns, medication errors, and adverse events. • Identify trends and implement corrective actions to improve resident outcomes and reduce risk. • Serve as a clinical resource during emergencies, resident crises, and complex care situations. • Support communities during regulatory reviews, investigations, and other critical events.
On-Call & Travel Requirements:
- Provide clinical consultation and support to communities within the assigned region. • Participate in an on-call rotation as assigned. • Travel regularly between communities and attend meetings, trainings, and corporate functions as needed.
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensure:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Minnesota.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of nursing leadership experience in Assisted Living, Memory Care, Long-Term Care, Senior Housing, or a related healthcare setting.
- Previous experience as a Director of Nursing, Regional Clinical Leader, RN Care Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple locations, teams, or clinical programs preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of Minnesota Assisted Living regulations and clinical best practices.
- Strong understanding of resident assessments, care planning, medication management, infection control, and dementia care.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems; PointClickCare experience preferred.
