Job Description:
Maintenance Mechanic – Plastic Bag Machine Technician
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plastic bag manufacturing equipment, specifically Hudson-Sharpe and Ro-An (Roan) bag-making machines. This role ensures all machinery operates efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime while supporting production teams and machine operators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on Hudson-Sharpe and Ro-An plastic bag machines
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues
- Support bag machine operators by resolving machine breakdowns quickly
- Adjust, align, and calibrate machines for optimal performance and product quality
- Replace worn or defective parts such as belts, rollers, blades, and seals
- Conduct preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend machine life
- Maintain proper documentation of maintenance work, repairs, and parts usage
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
- Assist in installation and setup of new equipment or upgrades
- Work closely with production teams to improve machine efficiency and output
Requirements:
- Experience working with Hudson-Sharpe and/or Ro-An (Roan) bag-making machines preferred
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge of electrical systems (motors, sensors, PLCs is a plus)
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints
- Experience in plastic manufacturing or converting industry preferred
- Familiarity with tools, welding, and fabrication techniques
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Work in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving machinery
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing / production facility
- May require overtime, weekends, or shift work depending on production needs
Preferred Skills (Optional but Valuable):
- Experience as a bag machine operator
- PLC troubleshooting (Allen Bradley or similar)
- Preventive maintenance system experience (CMMS)
