JOB DESCRIPTION: BARISTA

FoJo Beans seeks a motivated Barista for our Hamilton College cafes (Clinton, NY). This position is Monday- Friday 9-5 (when classes are in session). A keen attention to detail (food & drink prep, stock & inventory, equipment cleaning & maintenance) is essential. Being a leader and role model is vital.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure all drinks are created according to specs
• Educate customers about our coffees and drinks menu
• Maintains café inventories behind the bar
• Thoroughly perform all opening and closing duties
• Keep equipment operational by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing preventive maintenance
• Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy work environment according to health codes
• Supporting kitchen operations
• Learning to prepare all food according to specifications
• Following food handling regulations ensure safety
• Maintain a bird's eye view of daily operations by recognizing where and when to support (e.g., POS, barista station, dishes, being able to step in if/when another team member needs support)
• Problem solving (customers complaints/queries; equipment issues, food/drinks being off spec, etc…)
• Enhance coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
• Operate standard barista and kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
• Role model for maintenance, and cleaning of the cafe and its equipment, fostering good safety and sanitation
• Communicate regularly with the Cafe Manager
• Relaying information about Stock/Inventory in a timely manner
• Handles customer and employee requests and/or complaints
• Retail display organization

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

• Experience working in a coffee bar and/or cafe
• Excellent communication; superior customer service; high degree of ethics
• Proactive approach to problem-solving with a calm, professional demeanor
• A demonstrated passion for customer service and coffee
• Excellent time management skills; ability to self-direct; detail oriented
• High level of organization; excellent time management skills; ability to self-direct
• Ability to work well within groups
• A passion for small business and quality products
• Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and maneuver 150 pounds
