The Cytology Manager will oversee daily laboratory operations, ensuring the efficient workflow of Molecular, FISH, and Flow Cytometry laboratories. The role involves managing staff training, specimen processing, troubleshooting technical issues, and maintaining laboratory instruments and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of Molecular, FISH, and Flow Cytometry laboratory workflow.
- Perform and verify staff training and competency assessments.
- Process and analyze specimens in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical and operational issues.
- Maintain, calibrate, and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments.
- Plan daily work schedules and assignments.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of laboratory results.
- Maintain accurate operational and quality documentation, including instrument maintenance, quality control checks, and safety monitoring.
- Process specimens for send-out testing as needed.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new instruments and procedures.
- Supervise, mentor, and support laboratory personnel.
- Conduct hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluations of staff.
- Communicate operational expectations and collaborate with laboratory leadership on quality metrics and strategy.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, COLA, OSHA, etc.).
- Oversee quality control programs and proficiency testing.
- Identify and resolve issues impacting test performance or result reporting.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Maintain inventory levels to support uninterrupted workflow.
- Ensure proper preparation, storage, and documentation of reagents and consumables.
- Oversee instrument service, maintenance, and calibration records.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- PCR, molecular, and cytology skills.
- ASCP certification as a Cytotechnologist.
- Bachelor's degree with 4 years of hands-on cytology experience or Master's degree with 2 years of experience.
- Experience in Flow Cytometry and PCR Molecular - NGS.
- Prior supervisory or management responsibility over cytology staff/operations.
- Strong background in both gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology.
- Experience with FISH (UroVysion or similar) is a strong plus.
- Candidates with strong microscopy backgrounds may be trained in FISH if needed.
- Certification such as AMT, ASCP, or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 5 years' laboratory experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong familiarity with regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, COLA, state regulations).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and technical problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
This role involves managing a laboratory team with 3 direct reports. The work environment is dynamic, requiring flexibility in hours to meet operational needs, including weekends and holidays when necessary. The laboratory is committed to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
