Job Summary
This role is open across three levels.
Travel Requirement: 50–75% (varies by level)
The Aviation Safety Specialist series provides aviation safety and oversight in support of capital projects. These roles ensure compliance with FAA regulations, company safety standards, and operational excellence across all aviation assets and activities, including helicopters, drones (UAS), fixed-wing aircraft, and emerging aviation technologies. Specialists work across field operations and office-based safety governance, supporting the Safety Management System (SMS), regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. These positions would primarily support operations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi.
Level 1: Entry-to-mid-level professionals transitioning from construction, military, or general safety backgrounds. Ideal for candidates with strong fundamentals but limited aviation-specific experience.
Responsibilities -
- Conduct supervised field observations of aviation activities (helicopters, UAS, fixed-wing, vegetation management)
- Monitor contractor personnel for qualifications, equipment readiness, and safety briefing adherence
- Document operational activities, deviations, and potential hazards in real-time
- Provide basic corrective feedback when non-conformance is observed
- Support landing zone (LZ) setup, congested area plan (CAP) verification, and site readiness assessments
- Assist with pre-flight inspections, equipment checks, and operational readiness verification
Level 2: Mid-to-senior professionals with proven aviation safety experience. Ideal for candidates ready for independent oversight and technical leadership.
Responsibilities –
- Conduct independent field observations and real-time safety assessments of all aviation activities (helicopters, UAS, fixed-wing, vegetation management, emerging technologies)
- Perform pre-rigging inspections, fuel checks, and equipment readiness assessments
- Verify landing zone (LZ) layout, congested area plans (CAPs), and site readiness independently
- Provide technical guidance and corrective feedback to contractors and operational teams
- Validate mission planning, load calculations, and operational risk assessments
- Conduct tailboard safety briefings and verify crew understanding of safety protocols
- Support helicopter fueling operations and ground coordination oversight
Senior: Strategic leaders with extensive aviation experience and demonstrated expertise in safety governance. Ideal for candidates with regulatory interaction experience or prior leadership roles.
Responsibilities –
- Conduct independent, comprehensive field assessments of all aviation operations
- Serve as technical authority for complex or high-risk aviation activities
- Perform advanced pre-rigging inspections, equipment evaluations, and operational readiness assessments
- Validate mission planning, load calculations, and operational risk assessments for complex projects
- Conduct independent safety audits and compliance assessments
- Provide expert guidance on emerging aviation technologies (UAS, Airsaw, vegetation management, etc.)
- Verify standardization across all aviation operations and contractor activities
