American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg (Acute Care) travel assignment in Illinois, requiring telemetry experience and a valid IL RN license.
Details- 16-bed Med/Surg (Acute Care) unit in a rural hospital setting
- Diverse patient population including respiratory conditions (COPD, pneumonia), cellulitis, CHF, and surgical cases such as colon resections and orthopedic procedures (total hips and knees)
- 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- High patient turnover with frequent admissions and discharges throughout the day
- Telemetry monitoring via Nihon Kohden; RNs are responsible for interpreting their own strips
- Access to high-flow oxygen and Vapotherm; more complex respiratory support (e.g., BiPAP) is transferred to ICU
- Charting system: Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every other or every third weekend required
- No mandatory holiday requirements; volunteers are appreciated
- No on-call requirements
- Floating may include assisting as a safety sitter or other supportive roles
- Occasional assistance with outpatient infusions as needed
- Active IL RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 3–5 years preferred, ideally in a rural hospital setting
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA)
- Telemetry monitoring experience required, including strip interpretation
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- BSN not required
- Comprehensive first-week orientation covering HR processes, infection control, equipment familiarization, and hands-on preceptor experience
- Team includes a CNA, clinical care coordinator, charge nurse (who takes active patient assignments), and a house supervisor available on weekends
- Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance with traveler preferences accommodated when possible
- Outpatient infusion experience is preferred but not required
- Strong charting skills are essential given the unit's focus on quality documentation
- Pewter scrub tops with black pants and shoes required; colored tops are acceptable if layered under a pewter outer garment
- 13-week assignment
