Job Description
Position Overview
Are you an empathetic, adaptable Medical Assistant looking to make a true difference in the lives of seniors? We are a rapidly growing healthcare organization specializing in a Medicare Advantage Value-Based Care Model. Unlike traditional, fast-paced clinics, our model prioritizes patient relationships by allotting 45 minutes per patient appointment.
Located in accessible, modern retail-style settings rather than large medical plazas, our clinics foster a warm, community-centered environment. We are looking for a dedicated Medical Assistant to partner closely with a Primary Care Physician (PCP), managing a busy schedule while delivering high-quality, comprehensive care to the geriatric population.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Intake & Rooming: Conduct thorough intake interviews, record medical histories, measure/record vital signs, and prepare patients to see the physician.
Clinical Support & Screenings: Perform routine diagnostic screenings, including EKGs, PHQ-9 depression screenings, and diabetic retinopathy screenings (training provided).
Care Gap Management: Proactively identify and assist in closing care gaps (FOCS) and complete urgent or stat referrals when necessary.
Phlebotomy & Lab Work: Draw blood and handle lab specimens confidently (strong phlebotomy skills are highly desired).
Patient Engagement & Coaching: Critically listen to and engage with patients, reporting all findings to the PCP. Provide ongoing health coaching and lifestyle support to a defined group of patients, including weekly follow-up calls.
Clinical Procedures: Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other basic first-aid procedures under physician supervision.
Clinic Administration: Process patient phone messages, return calls promptly, route messages to appropriate team members, and ensure legal, ethical, and OSHA-compliant documentation within the EMR system.
Cross-Functional Teamwork: Huddle with the clinical team daily at 8:00 AM sharp and dynamically assist coworkers to ensure seamless clinic operations.
Required Skills & Experience
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of working experience as a Medical Assistant.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Medical Assistant Certification or Diploma is preferred but not required.
Phlebotomy: 6+ months of robust phlebotomy experience is highly desired.
Certifications: Active BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Technical Proficiency: Strong experience working with EMR systems (eClinicalWorks/eCW experience is a major plus). Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Schedule Commitment: Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM consistently (no PRN, late starts, or early outs).
Soft Skills & Attributes
Adaptability & Growth Mindset: Comfortable navigating a fast-growing environment where workflows and training can evolve quickly.
Geriatric Passion: Genuine compassion and comfort working with an elderly patient population (60 and older).
Team-First Mentality: A reliable, punctual self-starter who is willing to cross-train, step in to help with patients outside of their direct assignment, and think creatively to solve problems.
High Emotional Intelligence: Strong communication skills, deep empathy, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to doing the right thing for the patient.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour (Equivalent to $37,440 - $49,920 annually, depending on experience).
Employment Type: Direct Hire / Permanent Placement.
Uniform: Professional scrubs (Royal Blue or Black).
Location Note (Float Pool): This role will support multiple clinical locations across the greater St. Louis / St. Charles area. Schedules are typically provided a week in advance to cover planned vacancies, though short-notice flexibility (24 hours notice) for emergency coverage may be required.
Why You'll Love This Role
Impactful Work: Say goodbye to the 10-minute rushed appointment model. Here, you get the time to truly know your patients and watch their health improve.
Growth Opportunities: As a rapidly expanding organization, we love to promote from within and invest heavily in our team's professional development.
A Culture of Excellence: Work alongside a passionate, tight-knit clinical team that embodies compassion, trust, respect, and resilience every day.
