City Engineer, Licensed PE

City Engineer - PE Required

Central Indiana, Greater Indianapolis Region | Full-Time | Exempt

A Central Indiana municipality is seeking an experienced City Engineer to support planning, review, and oversight of public infrastructure and private development projects. This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer with municipal or government-adjacent experience who enjoys a combination of technical review and field involvement and public interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review residential, commercial, and industrial development plans for code and ordinance compliance
  • Perform field inspections and oversee public infrastructure and site improvement projects
  • Support long-range infrastructure planning and capital improvement efforts
  • Prepare designs, specifications, bid documents, and construction plans
  • Review consultant work and monitor externally managed design and construction projects
  • Provide technical support to public works, stormwater, streets, and sanitation functions
  • Coordinate with planning boards, public officials, and local  state agencies
  • Participate in public meetings and hearings, and provide technical recommendations
  • Support emergency response through a 24-hour on-call rotation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
  • An active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Indiana is required
  • 5+ years of experience working in or closely with municipal engineering departments
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure design, construction standards, and development review
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with the public and stakeholders
  • Valid driver's license and ability to respond to emergencies as needed
