Civil Litigation Defense Associate

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Civil Litigation Defense Associate to join our litigation team. The successful candidate will focus on defending clients in a wide range of civil matters, including personal injury and negligence claims, with opportunities to work on aviation and construction-related cases. The role requires strong legal analysis, courtroom and deposition experience, and the ability to manage caseloads from intake through resolution while maintaining excellent client communication and collaboration with colleagues. 

Hybrid opportunity, 1-2 days a week in office

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse civil defense caseload, including personal injury, negligence, aviation, and construction matters, from intake through resolution.
  • Conduct factual and legal research, draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and other litigation documents.
  • Prepare for and take/defend depositions, attend mediations, arbitrations, and hearings, and assist in trial preparation and courtroom proceedings.
  • Develop case strategy and work closely with partners and senior attorneys to evaluate liability, damages, and settlement options.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, insurers, opposing counsel, and experts to advance case progression and protect client interests.
  • Coordinate and manage outside experts, investigators, and vendors when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate case files, track deadlines, and ensure timely compliance with court rules and firm procedures.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including client relationship building and preparing firm client updates and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Barred in FL
  • 3+ years of civil litigation defense experience preferred; candidates with experience in personal injury defense, negligence, aviation, or construction litigation are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting pleadings, discovery, motions, and settlement documents, and handling depositions and court appearances.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex facts and law into persuasive arguments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client-management skills, with a professional demeanor in dealing with insurers, experts, and opposing counsel.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with litigation management software, legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis), and standard office technology.
  • Commitment to professional development and a track record of collegial collaboration and ethical practice.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus
