Associate Attorney - Healthcare Litigation

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our healthcare litigation team. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload involving providers, hospitals, and healthcare organizations, handle all phases of civil litigation from pleadings through trial, and work closely with partners and clients to develop and execute litigation strategy. This role requires strong analytical and writing skills, comfort with discovery and depositions, and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal services in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a robust caseload of healthcare-related civil litigation matters and meet critical deadlines.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents; prepare and respond to discovery requests.
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on complex issues in healthcare law and litigation strategy.
  • Prepare for and take depositions, defend depositions, and coordinate witness preparation.
  • Lead and support trial preparation, including developing trial strategy, preparing exhibits and witness outlines, and assisting at trial.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, providing updates, strategic advice, and practical solutions tailored to healthcare industry risks.
  • Collaborate with partners and colleagues to develop case strategies, settlement negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution efforts.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates, paralegals, and support staff; manage delegation and quality control of work products.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical rules, firm policies, and state bar requirements in all client matters.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar in good standing.
  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare litigation or civil litigation with a demonstrated focus on healthcare matters; mid-level candidates with 36 years preferred.
  • Proven experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other court filings.
  • Substantial experience with discovery, depositions, and trial preparation; prior trial experience or courtroom exposure preferred.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills; ability to analyze complex statutes and regulations relevant to healthcare, including HIPAA, Stark, and False Claims Act issues.
  • Excellent oral advocacy, client counseling, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a heavy caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • High ethical standards, professionalism, and a collaborative team-oriented attitude.
  • Familiarity with litigation tools and e-discovery platforms a plus.
