Join a busy and professional General Surgery department and serve as the first point of contact for patients, families, and clinical staff. This is a great opportunity for someone who is organized, personable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in patients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Answer and direct incoming calls; respond to patient inquiries and relay messages as needed.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments, including sending reminders.
  • Collect and verify patient demographics, insurance information, and registration details.
  • Manage front desk operations, including maintaining a clean, organized, and confidential reception area.
  • Coordinate communication between patients, clinical staff, and insurance companies as needed.
  • Collect copayments and self-pay balances.
  • Inform patients of delays, office policies, and general department updates.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, faxing, scanning, and managing electronic health records.
  • Maintain compliance with New York State patient privacy, safety, and documentation standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical administration certification preferred.
  • 6 months to 2 years of receptionist or medical office experience preferred, ideally in a specialty or surgical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, EMR/EHR systems, and insurance verification processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional phone manner.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work well with patients, families, and clinical staff in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills may be preferred depending on location.
  • Compliance with all applicable New York health, privacy, and vaccination requirements may be required.
  • Compassionate, dependable, and able to provide a welcoming and professional patient experience.
