In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting progressive stamping tooling from concept through production. The ideal candidate has hands-on Tool & Die experience, excellent CAD skills, and a deep understanding of stamping processes, GD&T, and precision manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Design progressive stamping dies, tooling, fixtures, and gauges using customer specifications, prints, and 3D CAD models.
- Review customer drawings, CAD data, and engineering specifications to determine manufacturability and tooling requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, toolmakers, and production teams throughout the design, build, debug, and production support phases.
- Apply expertise in tool and die design, machining processes, metal properties, assembly methods, and manufacturing best practices.
- Estimate material usage and specify appropriate tooling and support equipment.
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings, tooling documentation, and work instructions.
- Update and revise existing tooling designs to support engineering changes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate CAD files and documentation reflecting tooling modifications made during build and production.
- Support troubleshooting and process improvements during tool build, debugging, and production launch.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Tool & Die Certificate required.
- Extensive experience designing progressive stamping dies.
- Strong understanding of tool design, tool build, debugging, and production support.
- Solid knowledge of machining processes, tool construction, and precision manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks is required.
- Experience with Logopress or similar progressive die design software is highly preferred.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Diemaker, or similar 2D CAD software is a plus.
- Hands-on Tool & Die bench experience with progression into tooling design strongly preferred.
- Experience designing tooling for tight-tolerance stamped components ranging from 0.004" to 0.032" thick, with additional tooling up to 0.125" material thickness.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage tooling projects from concept through production.
Preferred Candidate
We're looking for a creative, detail-oriented professional who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams and takes ownership of the complete tooling design process. Candidates should be prepared to provide CAD drawings and design samples as part of the technical evaluation process.
