ABOUT THE ROLE

This is not a heads-down, close-the-books-and-disappear kind of accounting job. As a Corporate Accountant at Huna Totem, you will be a trusted partner to leadership across a genuinely diverse portfolio — tourism, cultural programs, and strategic investments. You will work closely with a small, collaborative finance team, maintain the integrity of our general ledger, and help deliver the financial clarity that drives smart decisions for our shareholders and communities.

You bring precision to everything you touch. You communicate clearly, follow through reliably, and know that behind every number is a real decision for real people. You are equally comfortable diving into a reconciliation and talking through a variance with a non-finance colleague — and you take pride in both.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Core Accounting

  • Prepare and post journal entries with accuracy and proper documentation
  • Complete balance sheet and account reconciliations on a regular cycle
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes from start to finish
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger across HTC and its subsidiary entities
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare financial statements and internal management reports
  • Conduct variance analysis and dig into discrepancies — not just flag them, but explain them
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities across the organization
  • Provide financial data and analysis that helps the team make confident, informed decisions
  • Compliance, Audit & Continuous Improvement

  • Support external audits and respond to audit requests — organized, timely, and prepared
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and HTC's internal accounting policies
  • Help maintain accounting procedures and process documentation
  • Identify opportunities to do things better and bring those ideas forward
  • Provide cross-functional backup support for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll as needed
  • WHO YOU ARE

You are the kind of accountant who catches the thing everyone else missed. You are also the kind of teammate people want to work with.

  • Detail-oriented and accurate — you hold yourself to a high standard and your work shows it
  • Collaborative and team-minded — you share what you know, ask questions, and lift your colleagues
  • A clear communicator — you can translate financial information for non-finance audiences without losing the nuance
  • Accountable and professional — you manage your time, meet your deadlines, and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Solutions-oriented — you approach problems proactively and bring your best thinking before you ask for help
  • Adaptable — HTC operates across diverse business lines, and you find that energizing, not overwhelming
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • 3–7 years of corporate accounting experience with full-cycle exposure
  • Experience supporting external audits preferred
  • Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel, including pivot tables and lookups
  • ERP systems experience required; Sage Intacct strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • CPA or active progress toward CPA licensure preferred
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fully remote position. Occasional travel may be required, including to our Juneau, AK headquarters or operational sites. Travel may involve small aircraft. A valid driver's license is required for site visits. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

    NATIVE PREFERENCE

Huna Totem Corporation is a Native-owned enterprise and extends hiring preference under P.L. 93-638. We prioritize qualified Huna Totem Corporation shareholders, their spouses and descendants, and other Alaska Native and American Indian applicants. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
