About this job

  • Primary duties include, but are not limited to; rip out, repairing, targeting, layout, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization.
  • Repair and replacement of ships' piping systems such as auxiliary salt water, potable water, hydraulic, compressed air, fuel oil, lube oil, etc. accomplished utilizing work item specifications, NAVSEA/Military standards, and marine blueprints.
  • Necessary fabrication abilities include the use of various shop equipment such as table saws, pipe threading machines, bending machines (power as well as hand-operated), drill presses, and brazing equipment.
  • Additional tasks associated with this position are the strain free of pumps and miscellaneous ship equipment as well as blanking, pressure testing of tanks (structural boundary testing), and unblinking of the same.
  • Performs related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. Install and repair foundations for operating machinery and principal structures/components of the ship's armament.
  • Test or assist in the testing of shipboard machinery pier side or on sea trials to prove satisfactory operation and acceptance.
  • Read, understand, and properly execute all work in accordance with information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, and written and/or oral instructions.


  • Working knowledge of piping systems on board marine vessels.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring, fitting, and welding pipe.
  • Must know how to read and interpret pipe drawings and calculate pipe requirements through the effective use of standard pipe formulas.
  • Ability to properly target pipe spools.
  • Must be capable to read, comprehend and interpret blueprints.
  • Must meet certification requirements for manual torch brazing.
  • Must have the knowledge and utilize proper tools to perform the job assignment.
  • Must be able to estimate material needs for the next day's work.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend instructions in written or spoken in English.
  • Must be reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Must have basic hand tools applicable to your trade with bag or tote
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, tech manuals and work specifications for various types of machinery and/or piping systems.
  • Must be able to wear applicable PPE (Hard hat, safety goggles, gloves, steel toes shoes, ear protection)

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Desired Education and Experience:

  • Education Minimum: High School Diploma/GED
  • Preferred Minimum: Trade School, Apprenticeship, or Higher Education
  • Minimum Relevant Experience: 1 year
    Preferred Relevant Experience: 5+ years
  • Basic computer skills preferred


Other Requirements:

  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be eligible to obtain DBIDs
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening
