Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and skilled Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our growing podiatry practice. The Physician Assistant will work closely with the supervising podiatrist to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with foot and ankle conditions in both clinic and surgical settings. This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive patient care, assist with procedures, perform wound management, and support both conservative and surgical treatment plans.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct patient histories, physical examinations, and comprehensive lower extremity assessments.
- Diagnose and manage common foot and ankle conditions, including:
- Heel pain and plantar fasciitis
- Diabetic foot complications
- Wounds and ulcers
- Ingrown toenails
- Sports injuries
- Arthritis and deformities
- Acute and chronic foot and ankle pain
- Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician.
- Order, interpret, and review diagnostic studies including X-rays, laboratory tests, and other imaging as permitted by state regulations.
- Perform in-office procedures within scope of practice, including wound care, debridement assistance, injections, and postoperative care.
- Assist in surgical procedures and provide pre-operative and post-operative patient management.
- Prescribe medications and durable medical equipment as authorized under state law and practice protocols.
- Educate patients regarding diagnoses, treatment options, preventive foot care, and postoperative instructions.
- Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Collaborate with physicians, medical assistants, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure exceptional patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and practice policies.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- Active Tennessee Physician Assistant license (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
- DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain).
- BLS and ACLS certifications preferred.
- Previous experience in podiatry, orthopedics, wound care, surgery, or related specialty preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with supervising physicians.
- Experience with EMR systems and medical documentation.
- Knowledge of foot and ankle pathology, wound care, and surgical principles preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
