About this job
Job Description
Location: Thomson, GA
Shift: Day Shift — with emergency on-call availability as needed
Reports To: Lead Process Technician / Division Management
Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Position Summary
Amcor’s Injection Molding Division is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with deep injection molding and electrical expertise. This is an injection-molding-specific maintenance role focused on keeping our Milacron injection molding presses and all associated auxiliary equipment running at peak performance.
The right person has a strong injection molding maintenance background, is genuinely skilled in electrical troubleshooting and repair, understands hydraulic systems on injection presses, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a small, high-performing team.
Core Responsibilities
Injection Molding Press Maintenance & Repair
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Milacron injection molding presses, with familiarity with Mosaic and Cemac 486 machine control systems strongly preferred
• Perform emergency and unscheduled press repairs to minimize downtime; respond to production interruptions quickly and effectively
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance (PM) program for all injection molding presses — scheduling, executing, and documenting PMs to prevent failures before they occur
• Maintain a running log of machine health, repair history, & upcoming maintenance needs for each press
Electrical Systems
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems on injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment: control panels, wiring harnesses, sensors, proximity switches, solenoid valves, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other components
• Read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
• Repair or replace electrical components as needed; maintain organized records of replacements & changes
• Ensure compliance with all electrical safety standards including LOTO procedures at all times
Hydraulic & Mechanical Systems
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems on injection molding machines including pumps, valves, manifolds, cylinders, and seals
• Perform mechanical repairs including bearings, belts, couplings, linkages, and general machine components
• Perform machinist tasks as needed for fabricating or modifying parts to support equipment repair & upkeep
Auxiliary Equipment
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all auxiliary injection molding equipment including: temperature controllers / thermolators, resin dryers, chillers and mold cooling systems, material loaders and conveying systems, granulators/grinders, conveyors, robots and automation cells, and hot runner controllers
• Ensure all auxiliary equipment is operating correctly and support the process tech team in diagnosing auxiliary equipment issues
PLC & Controls
• Troubleshoot PLC-based machine control faults and work through diagnostic errors on Milacron control systems (Mosaic, Cemac 486)
• PLC programming experience (modifying, updating, or backing up programs) is a significant plus; candidates without prior programming experience who have strong troubleshooting skills will be considered
• Coordinate with corporate electrical maintenance resources on PLC-related projects as needed
Support & Coordination
• Interface with Milacron and other equipment vendors for parts sourcing, technical documentation, and specialized repairs — with a goal of progressively reducing external service dependency
• Support mold change process from a mechanical/connectivity standpoint: water connections, hot runner hookups, and press-side mechanical verification
• Manage spare parts inventory for injection molding equipment; identify critical spares and maintain appropriate stock levels
• Communicate machine condition, maintenance status, and upcoming PM needs proactively to the Lead Process Technician and division management
• Maintain complete and organized maintenance records, equipment logs, and service documentation
• Available for emergency on-call response outside normal day shift hours as needed; response expected for critical press downtime situations
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of division uptime and operational goals
Qualifications
Education
• High school diploma or GED required
• Vocational or technical training in electrical, electro-mechanical, or industrial maintenance strongly preferred
• Formal apprenticeship program, associate degree in a technical field, or equivalent combination of training and experience welcomed
Experience
• 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in an injection molding manufacturing environment
• Must have direct, relevant experience maintaining injection molding presses — this is not a general manufacturing maintenance role
Required Technical Skills
• Injection molding press maintenance — deep hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing injection molding machines is essential
• Electrical troubleshooting — ability to trace, diagnose, and repair electrical faults using schematics; confident with control wiring, sensors, drives, and components
• Hydraulic systems — solid understanding of hydraulic circuits on injection molding machines; ability to diagnose and repair leaks, pressure issues, valve faults, and pump failures
• Mechanical aptitude — comfortable with general mechanical repair: bearings, belts, couplings, pneumatics, machining basic parts
• Ability to read electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings
• LOTO and electrical safety compliance — must practice and enforce proper lockout/tagout and electrical safety procedures
• Self-directed — able to diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues independently
Strongly Preferred
• Direct experience with Milacron injection molding equipment — familiarity with Mosaic or Cemac 486 control systems is a significant advantage
• PLC troubleshooting experience — ability to navigate PLC diagnostic screens, identify faults, and work through control system errors
• PLC programming — ability to read, modify, or back up PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Milacron-specific)
• Hot runner system maintenance — troubleshooting controllers, tip replacements, wiring repairs
• Robotics / automation maintenance experience
• Chiller and cooling system maintenance experience
Personal Characteristics
• Proactive communicator — surfaces equipment concerns and emerging failures before they impact production
• Ownership mentality — treats the equipment as their own responsibility and takes pride in uptime and machine condition
• Problem solver — approaches equipment issues methodically; doesn’t give up until the root cause is identified and resolved
• Adaptable — comfortable in a growing, fast-paced environment where priorities can shift and initiative is valued
• Team-oriented — works closely with process technicians, production staff, and division leadership to keep the operation running
Physical Requirements
• Capable of lifting 50+ lbs unassisted
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at floor level, and at heights as required
• Ability to climb stairs, crouch, kneel, and bend
• Must be able to wear required PPE: steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, and/or ear protection
